Charleston Fashion Week 2010 has come to an end

Charleston Fashion Week 2010 has wrapped up for another year.

Some noteworthy happenings from Friday and Saturday night:

- Top Shows of Friday night: Teal, LaRoque Studio Boutique and Gwynns

-Featured designer and best show of Friday night, Clewis Reid by Ashley Reid, was full of color-blocked garments in off-beat warm tones. She incorporated hints of mint alongside the salmon, orange and hot pink hues. Concluding the show, her Art Institute students (who assisted her with the show) joined Ashley on the stage to share the praises from the crowd. Video below.

-Larika Page from Lithia Springs, Georgia, was announced winner of the Emerging Designer competition

-Barbara Beach was named the People’s Choice winner

Overall, I have mixed feelings about this year’s fashion week. While there were a lot of new elements involved with the event — Rock the Runway model competition, an Emerging Designer design challenge, showcasing violinist, Daniel D, on the runway, etc. — I felt as though there was a certain level of innovation lacking all-around this year. Still reminiscing over the amazing Biton show last year, I gave my hopes up when I saw their show this go-around. Karen Briggs over at the Digitel hit the nail on the head so I encourage you to check out her Friday night re-cap instead of me trying to reiterate her feelings.

It was great to see some newcomers to the stage and while the shows didn’t have the funk like they did last year, seeing looks put together with ease makes it effortless for shoppers to walk in the store, find the style they coveted on the runway and call it their own. The style lounge was also much easier to maneuver this year and I appreciated the efficiency of the set-up. It was much easier to view and chat with each vendor and the displays showcased the items in a more aesthetically pleasing way.

While Charleston Fashion Week is over for 2010, I encourage you to attend the plethora of trunkshows, style showcases and fashion events happening on a regular basis. With so much to offer, local boutiques and designers have plenty to keep you fashionably busy!
